Located in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Amarnath is one of the most sought out pilgrimage destinations for tourists. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the destination is flocked by large number of tourists every year from all across the world. Amarnath Cave is the most famous sightseeing attraction for tourists visiting the place.

Believed to be 5,000 years old, Amarnath Cave is located at a distance of 46 km from Pahalgam. Situated at a height of 4,500 m above the sea level, the destination is also known for the legends associated with it.

According to Hindu Mythology, it is believed that it is the same cave where Lord Shiva revealed the secret of life and eternity to Goddess Parvati. He was looking for an isolated place to tell this secret to the goddess and his search ended at this cave, located in Himalayas.

On his way to this cave, he left behind his vehicle Nandi at Pahalgam, moon at Chandanwari and snake at Lake Sheshnag. In addition, at Panjitarni, he left five elements of life and left his son, Lord Ganesha at Mahagunas Parvat.

Inside the cave, tourists can see an enshrined image of ice formed naturally, which resembles Lord Shiva Lingam. Besides, there are two other ice formations inside this cave, which represent Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha.
