The most fundamental of Hindu deities, is the Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva - popular deities include Ganesha, Krishna, Hanuman and goddesses like Lakshmi, Durga,Saraswati.
Brahma continued with the work of creation but he worked with Ushas, as partner. She was now called Saraswati. The goddess of wisdom-she gave Brahma the wisdom needed to create the cosmos. Together they created every creature in the cosmos: gods, demons and humans, ghosts and goblins.
Then one day Brahma noticed that the beasts were becoming restless and violent. They were hungry and needed food. Brahma conferred that they would eat each other to survive. Those animals who were strong did just that. But the animals who were gentle and meek could not eat the others. They turned to Pashupati for help. Shiva as Pashupati meditated and created every plant, tree, shrub or herb. Thus he became Vrikshanath the lord of all vegetation.
