In the Mudgala Purana, aside from the eight main Avatars, he is also described as having taken 32 more Forms. Maha Ganapati is the thirteenth of these 32 Forms. The first 16 Forms are collectively called as Shodasha Ganapati.

He has ten hands and is red-complexioned. One of his Shakthi consorts sits on his left thigh. His main left hand tenderly holds her, while his main right hand holds his broken tusk. With his eight other hands, he holds a Pomegranate, a blue lily, a sugarcane bow, a discus, a noose, a lotus, a paddy sprig, a mace and a pot of gems.
