Periyar Lake : Located in the heart of the forest, Periyar Lake is famous fostering a wide species of wildlife. Boating can be enjoyed on this lake, which serves as the reservoir of the dam that provides water to the forest.


The Periyar National park : The Periyar National park is the main attraction of Thekkady. This famous wildlife sanctuary is located in the banks of artificial Periyar lake. Periyar National park is fully covered by dense forests and green grass lands. Thus, this has become the perfect locations for wildlife such as the great Indian tigers, elephants, lion tailed macaques, gaurs, deer, sambars.

Thekkady offers cruise rides on lake and elephant rides as well. Trekking programs are conducted for the ancient Mangala Devi temple located in the midst of a thick forest.

Kumily: This town is located on the border of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. It is an important business center and spice trade center and is known for its spice plantations and gardens.

Mangala Devi Temple : Mangala Devi is a primeval temple, located at a distance of 15 kilometers from Thekkady. The temple lies unseen in dense woods at the top of a peak 1337 meters above sea level.

Murikkady This place has spice in the aroma of its atmosphere what with plantations of coffee, pepper and cardamom strewn all over.

Pandikuzhi This scenic place is located at a distance of 10 kilometers from Thekkady, between Chellarkovil and the state of Tamil Nadu and is a popular recreation spot. Pandikuzhi has great locations for trekking and is a photographer's paradise.

Pullumedu Located at a distance of 40 kilometers from Thekkady, this hill town, situated along the Periyar River, offers a striking view of the undulating hills covered in lush greenery.

Vandanmedu Vandanmedu is considered to be one of the world's largest trade centers for Cardamom. It is located at a distance of around 30 kilometers from Thekkady and walking through its lush green cardamom plantations is an absolute delight.

Vandiperiyar This place is located at a distance of around 20 kilometers from Thekkady and is famous for its tea plantations and factories. The Periyar River flows right through this place.

The total area of Periyar National Park is 777 sq out of which 360 sq km is covered by dark thick evergreen forests.

Thekkady is a small town around the Periyar Wildlife Reserve. Thekkady is nestled in spice and rubber plantations and has a very green look about it all through the year. It rains heavily in Thekkady.
